Catskill, NY — Marc Molinaro, candidate for New York’s 102nd Assembly District, today reiterated his call for repealing and replacing New York’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) following Governor Kathy Hochul’s admission that her proposed changes to the law will not lower utility rates.
As Upstate New Yorkers are already seeing their utility bills rise, full implementation of the law is projected to cost households an additional $4,000.
Molinaro said, “This is economic illiteracy. Governor Hochul’s policies drove up costs — her own administration admits it. And now her so-called plan to ‘fix it’ won’t even lower them. That’s not a solution. That’s surrender — and Upstate New Yorkers are left paying the bill.”
Molinaro added, “Hochul-Cuomo energy policies raised your utility bill — and now she admits her ‘fix’ won’t lower it. That’s not leadership. That’s gaslighting New Yorkers.”
The reason is simple: the policy has already constrained energy supply. The Governor’s own Public Service Commission (PSC) has approved rate hike after rate hike as utilities are forced to invest billions to comply with Albany’s climate mandates — costs that are ultimately passed directly on to consumers.
Molinaro concluded by calling on the Governor to abandon the current approach and repeal the law.
“Governor Hochul should stop pretending this policy is working,” Molinaro said. “Repeal the climate law and start over with an all of the above energy policy with realistic goals, natural resource conservation, grid investments that drive down rates.”
